Twilight CD for Stephenie?
ETA #2: I just want to thank everyone who participated in this. I successfully got the book made and gave it to Stephenie this past Friday (9/14), so the ball is in her court now. I will definitely update this again if I get any word from her. :)
Thanks again for submitting your stuff, guys!
ETA: I've officially made this entry public and x-posted it to numerous Twilight communities so more people can join that aren't on my flist. So plug away if you want!
We now return you to my original post...
Alright, guys. I just had a brilliant idea. Maybe. We'll see what you think.
I'm going to see Stephenie Meyer next week on Friday and I wanted to make a little something for her. Problem is, I'm extremely lazy, lol. I usually come up with great ideas, but when it comes to the execution part, I tend to bite the big one. SO!
I'm thinking about making a playlist for the series. And I'm coming to you guys for help. If she didn't come to you for a signing, you can still go to her. What I'm thinking is having everyone choose three songs that best describe each book. YES. ONLY ONE PER BOOK. I'm only human. I can't be making three kajillion mixed CDs for you guys, lol. If you want to pick your favorite ship and choose a song that describes them in each book, go for it. ONLY THREE SONGS THOUGH. As it is, most of you may be choosing the same songs (i.e.; "A Place in Displacement" by South) anyway. The other thing I want you to do is write up why you like the song for whatever reason. If you want, you can include cover art.
I'm going to leave this post open until next Monday. I know it's last minute, but I need time to put everything together. My mom has a professional binding system at work that I can use and their really nice paper, so it will look very put-together. :) I will include any messages you want for Stephenie and a way she can contact you if she wants to.
So, here are the rules in list order:
1. Choose up to three songs. i.e.; three that best describes each book, three that describe your favorite ship. UPDATE: Upload these songs to a site that I can download them from, please! I don't want to be racing around trying to find the songs off different websites. There's a bunch of sites you can choose from: Mediafire.com, Sendspace.com, Megaupload.com, Yousendit.com, etc. Ask a friend who is used to downloading songs and full albums illegally from the internet to give you some tips, lol!
Also, don't be afraid to choose a song that somebody else has already chosen. I will list the names of the people who choose the songs. So, in the long run, it really won't matter who chooses what. The whole point of this is to get your comments about what the songs mean to you in relation to the books.
2. Tell Mrs. Meyer why you chose the songs. Please be detailed. Think of it as an essay for school. :) UPDATE: Because I keep getting the "an essay for school? BUT ESSAYS ARE SO LONG AND HARD TO WRITE!" complaint: When I say essay, I don't necessarily mean you have to make it like a full page and include witty metaphors and fluttery poetry and compare and contrast and all that jazz (unless you happen to be an exquisite writer and love to do that sort of thing) to convey your thoughts. People, I'm not grading you or anything. I just don't want you to write a short two sentences that sound completely moronic...
Example of what to do:
Let's say I've chosen the song "The Ghosts Around You" by Longwave. Now here's what I've written about this song in relation to Edward and Bella (my favorite otp from Twilight): "Okay, I had to spend a few minutes analyzing this one, lol. I knew I wanted to include a Longwave song because they're one of my favorite bands. This song (Next to the song "Day Sleeper"--instrumental, otherwise I totally would've included it because how fricken vampire does that title sound?) is my favorite off the CD The Strangest Things. Isn't it weird how you just know a song is meant to be for certain characters even before you know what the song means? In my opinion, I think it refers to someone not wanting to give in to some sort of temptation. Then something happens that changes everything and "the outline looks so strange" because you have no idea where the future lies. The part where they sing "and always closer to the cage" makes me think of Bella slowly moving closer to "Edward's cage". Since Stephanie Meyer uses the metaphor "the lion and the lamb", Edward would of course be a lion in a cage. I also like the lyrics "breathe, explode, I'll keep control" because it seems like Edward trying to keep from hurting Bella on the first day they meet."
Example of what not to do:
Let's say I choose the song "Helena" by My Chemical Romance: "OMG, I don't know why I like this song so much. UGH PROLLY COS I LIKE GERARD AND I WANT GERARD TO PLAY EDWARD IN YOUR MOVIE, STEPHENIE! PLZ?!"
In short, use common sense, my little Shakespearian poets, and we'll get along famously.
3. Make cover art if you want. You can draw something if you like. Said cover art should keep the dimensions of 600x450 because I really want to be able to print them out and not have them covering the entire page. 600x450 are the dimensions I use when I create my cover art, so deal with it.
4. Include a message for Mrs. Meyer and a way to contact you if you want her to and if she has the time.
4a. When writing this message, please refrain from suggesting actors and actresses she should contact to play Edward or Bella or any other characters in her books. It's very irritating and I'm sure she agrees, but is too kind to put her fans in their place about it. Besides that, she usually gets the exact same requests, so it's pretty pointless.
5. Remember, extra cookies if you include a Muse song, but we are trying to give Mrs. Meyer stuff she may have never listened to before. Be creative!
6. Please SPELL-AND-GRAMMAR-CHECK before submitting anything to me.
7. Let's maybe keep the cursing to a minimum, kids. If you feel the need to f-bomb your essays to death, maybe exchange the f-word for another equally cool word liiiike... "frak" or "frick". Something like that. However, if you're abbreviating with internet speech (i.e.; OMFG), that's cool. While on the subject of internet speech, remember that not everybody spends 24/7 on the internet like you do and phrases like "lulz" or "u mai not noe" or "hai guiiiiiz" or "iz sexytime 4 EdWaRd n JaCoB now plz kthnx?" are perhaps not as well-known as you think they are. That said, try to remember what you learned in literature when you studied grammar and spelling and then excercise these lessons instead of using another word (or letter) you more commonly find on the internet. Prime example? I'd better not see anyone substituting the letter 'u' to replace the actual word.
8. So when you're submitting everything in a comment to me, here's what the basic set-up should resemble:
Name:
Age:
State you live in: (if you're comfortable giving this to me)
E-mail address:
Your songs and essays:
Your personal message to Stephenie:
Your cover art: (if you decide to include it)
If you run out of room in one comment, reply to your first comment and continue on.
If you don't want people stealing your ideas/you're too embarrassed to profess your undying devotion to a certain Spice Girls song that you think is absolutely perfect for the wings of an angel love that is Edward and Bella or Jacob and Bella or Edward and Jacob or Edward, Jacob, and Bella/whatever, just e-mail your stuff to me: shipswillsail @ gmail dot com.
If you're unsure of something, questions can be directed to the comments. I'll answer as best as I can, but please read this entire entry before you ask anything.
